Jamaica Man

Tiki Hut

We went to Jamaica over Valentine’s Day in 2014. Jamaica was very beautiful.  We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Montego Bay.  The resort was alright but the beach and ocean was the best.  The water was so clear you could see all the way down and there was a small island with loungers on it that you could wade out to if you wanted to get away from the main beach, although it was pretty popular and usually full of people.  The resort had a long boardwalk that jetted out into the ocean and you could look down at all the fish and ocean life which was really neat.  There were so many pretty fish, urchins and sea hares.  Our favorite place to eat at the resort was the Jerk Hut where they would make jerk chicken or pork that was really good. It was sometimes hard to find a seat because it was so popular.

Kyle Zip Lining

Most of our time in Jamaica was spent lounging around the resort however we did book a few tours. The first tour we took was a glass bottom boat that left from the resort.  It was nice to go out further into the ocean but it was kind of hard to see through the glass all the way to the bottom.  We brought some bread and we got to see a lot of fish come up and eat it which was neat. Another tour we took was zip lining in the rainforest.  We actually did not have that great of a time.  Maybe it was because we were in a group with all girls celebrating a bachelorette or birthday party, I’m not sure.  Or maybe because the mosquitos were awful and it was hot.  Or

Martha Brae River

the fact that our guides were enjoying themselves in the Jamaican way… Either way, it was still neat to do but probably would not ever need to do again.  The most fun tour we did was river rafting down the Martha Brae river.  The rafts are made by each captain themselves out of bamboo.  The captain then stands at the front of the raft while you sit at the back and you slowly paddle down the river.  The river is so quiet and peaceful and is a pretty dark powder teal color.  We would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Jamaica.

Overall, Jamaica was nice. We had some struggles with the tour guides being on “island time” or not even showing up for the start of our tours.  The people there were also not the nicest. We had a few where they expected a tip or us to buy something; even a few mutters under the breath as we walked away.  In the end, the island was very pretty and had one of the best beaches we’ve been to.
